Problems with Quigg Bros. Inc?

Automatic selection of the lowest bidder may not be in the Public’s best interest. Some of Quigg’s past Public projects have resulted in additional work for agencies and burdened them with time consuming and costly investigations. Prudent use of Public funds begins with the careful selection of a responsible and law-abiding bidder, not just the bargain basement cheapest. The following are examples of Quigg Bros Inc practices:

·         Misclassification of workers supplying the Anderson Island Ferry Terminal resulting in revised payrolls amounting to over $41,000 and affidavits of restitutions from affected employees being submitted to the Pierce County Contract Compliance Officer.

·         Mediation with Grays Harbor County to settle a dispute regarding cost over runs.

·         Objections raised by “Friends of Grays Harbor” regarding permit revisions requested after Biomass Turbine Project cooling pond was not built to specifications according to PUD engineer (Washington Department of Ecology reviewing possible impact to Chehalis River) Quigg Bros denies responsibility for the design and permitting on this project but Grays Harbor Paper LP has common ownership and their contractors license is listed as a successor to Quigg Bros.

·         Delayed payment of prevailed rate to workers for several months after communication from Labor and Industries citing WAC 296-127-010(7)(a)(vi) and WAC 296-127-020(3). Initial issue raised by Grays Harbor PUD one month into Biomass Turbine Project. According to an article in The Daily World Quigg Bros was sanctioned for misleading the PUD’s Prevailing investigation. http://www.thedailyworld.com/articles/2008/05/20/local_news/05news.txt

Quigg has a record of not paying their workers the minimum wage required by law for public jobs, then paying up only when they get caught.  Underpaying workers hurts workers, hurts law-abiding

It’s bad for all of us.
